Where is Niseko Annupuri?

Niseko is a unique place and receives an incredible snowfall year in year out. It’s unique mountain orientation, geology combined with the Siberian winds leaves Niseko under a massive 14 – 16 meters of snow every year. It is this fact along with the mystic of the Japanese culture that brings tourists back to this area every year.

On top of this Annupuri is where you will find a fantastic variety of Hot Springs which are a treat to relax in after a hard day on the slopes on of which is a mixed bathing “coinyoku “ onsen located in the Grand Hotel. The area also has a fabulous selection of Japanese eatieries all specializing in their own style of cooking and all using fresh local produce.

Annupuri Ski Resort sits at the Northern end of all the resorts at the base of Mt Annupuri.

Annupuri ski field is part of the United Ski Pass which covers 4 ski fields, 35 lifts, 3 gondolas, and 1309 meters of vertical terrain. The mountain has a great mix of terrain catering for everyone’s needs with Annupuri Ski Area really covers all these categories and has some fantastic on- piste skiing combined with some of the longest powder runs in the area. Not to be outdone by the other areas night skiing is available and is uncrowded.

For some variety Moiwa ski area sits right next to Annupuri and is easily accessible by ski/snowboard/ car. Although not on the All Mountain Pass this is a great wee ski field with a high speed quad that access some fantastic terrain. Whilst travelling between ski areas or in the backcountry be sure to keep an eye out for our Hokkaido fox part of the indigenous wild life in the area.

Outside of Winter Summer in Niseko is also very special. The area has very settled weather patterns and most of the time the air is dry with temperatures between 25 – 32 degrees. This area has an abundance of natural beauty and the temperatures allow for a wide array of outdoors activities. Summer is growing in stature with our overseas guests which allows for a true 4 season experience in Niseko.

Access from the airport over the years has greatly improved. Most people choose to use the large bus companies such as Dohan, and Chuo Bus which provide a cost effective form of transport between Niseko and Chitose Airport.  There is also a variety of private shuttle companies operating now which provide very reasonable, convenient door to door services.

2009 saw the start of helicopter transfers from Chitose  International Airport to Higashiyama with Aero Asahi (taking 30 minutes). Although these are a little expensive and winter conditons make flying hours low, they are sure to be popular with a few guests.

A train service is also available from the airport to Kutchan which transfers at Otaru. The Shinkansen or bullet train is currently planned to reach Kutchan in  2015  which will dramatically reduce journey times from Tokyo and Honshu in general and increase the flow of the domestic inbound tourists.
